WHAT IS A ZOMBIE?

in this image, Nino is a zombie.

a zombie is an opponent whose health is under 200 and more than 0. these players are shown two ways. if they are defensive players, they have a broken shield. if they are offensive, they have a blood spatter, like Nino above.

HOW DO YOU MAKE A ZOMBIE?

It's not as complicated as it might sound. You just attack an opponent until their health is below 200 and above zero. Typically you just take a couple more shots than you would if you really wanted to execute them. It's best to choose an inactive opponent. It's very frustrating to have your zombie heal, and have to make another.

HOW DO YOU USE THEM?

When your health goes below 200, your shots only produce half of the damage that they would otherwise. If you pair this with the execution action, you get a case of Zeno's Paradox. Zeno said that if a rabbit was racing a tortoise, it would take him some amount of time to get halfway there. And then some other amount of time to get half of the remaining way there. And so on. So, in Zeno's mind, the rabbit could never pass the tortoise because it would take an infinite amount of half-distancs to overcome.

Zeno was silly.

But with UWE, if you are "dead" and you execute a player, you only half kill them. And you can repeat this process until time runs out, if you wish. You will never reduce the player's health all the way to zero, and can continue to execute them as long as you like.

If you aren't dead, executing them will bring them to zero, and you can't shoot them any more.

If you forget to execute and accidentally attack, you will probably kill them too. Then you can't shoot them any more.

If you or a teammate uses a flame thrower on the same row with them, it will probably kill them, and then you can't shoot them anymore.

But if you're dead and they're dead and you only execute them, you can do it for the rest of the game.

WHEN WOULD YOU USE THEM?

The only time you'd need a zombie is when:
a) you are dead and
b) you have no other way to shoot a winner, and
c) you can't help your team win by shooting a loser.

When you shoot opponents, you are awarded points as follows.

80 Losing shot
100 failed execution
110 shooting a building
120 winning shot

These points add up, and are the biggest variable in how many class coins you receive. In a game where you can't beat anyone on the board, your personal interest is elevated because you can't help the team until you get stronger.

And if you're a Skinny Guy, you might not be stronger for a year.

So, if you can't beat anyone on the board, and if you're dead, and if you can't help your team win by shooting losers, you will need a zombie.

I might be misusing the term. Maybe you are the zombie and they are your zombie prey. But we call the opponent the zombie and we don't call you a cannibal. It keeps us from being ashamed of our criminal lives.

When you shoot a zombie, you get 120 points. It's done by executing them.

EXOTIC EXECUTION

There are a variety of execution methods. If you find yourself overwhelmed in a game, and need to go to the mattresses early, you can work on your alternate execution methods.

ZOMBIE KILLERS

if your teammates kill your zombies, you will have to make another. if you're dead and out of tokens, it may be impossible to replace one. Remind them that your team gets the point for killing them when their health goes below 200, and that killing zombies doesn't earn the team any points.
